Attendance result deadline calculator

For an appointment date, time and state or territory, see when the attendance result must be recorded, the latest date if same-day entry is not possible, and the public holidays that move it (Part B 6.6).

Data as at 17/09/2026Business Day data covers 2026 and 2027

Your inputs

Day, month and year, for example 24/04/2026

Region

Some public holidays apply to part of a state only (for example Brisbane's show day). This changes how a warning below is worded, not the date maths.

A default: the Guidelines do not define close of business (Deed 1.1(h) makes times local). Change it if your organisation uses a different time.

Results

Friday 24/04/2026 is the appointment day: record the result by close of business (5:00pm) today. If that is not possible, record it within three Business Days: by close of business on Thursday 30/04/2026.

Latest, if not possible on the dayThursday 30/04/2026, 5:00pm
Conservative reading (counts the appointment day)Wednesday 29/04/2026, 5:00pm

Days that do not count: Saturday 25/04/2026 (weekend, Anzac Day), Sunday 26/04/2026 (weekend), Monday 27/04/2026 (Additional public holiday for Anzac Day, a public holiday in New South Wales).

For a participant on a Detailed Job Plan, compliance action needs a "Did not attend (Invalid)" or "Misconduct" result by close of business on the day of the scheduled Contact (Part B 6.6).

Where the figures come from

  • Attendance result rule: Part B 6.6
  • Business Day: Deed Annexure A; next Business Day rule Deed 1.1(i); local time Deed 1.1(h)
  • Public holidays: Fair Work Ombudsman's 2026 and 2027 lists, checked 17/09/2026

Data as at 17/09/2026

This is a guide, not advice: the Department's IT Systems decide what can be claimed and paid, and when. It collects nothing about anyone.

Worked examples

Part B 6.6 says the attendance result must be recorded "by close of business on the day of the Contact Appointment or Activity". If that is not possible, for example after hours, remotely without system access, or during a system outage, it must be recorded "within 3 Business Days". This tool shows both dates, plus a more conservative reading of the three days.

Worked examples: appointment, record by (same day), and the three Business Day limit

The same appointment, two states

An appointment on Wednesday 23 September 2026 gives a different Business Day 3 depending on where it happens. In New South Wales, the latest date is Monday 28 September 2026: only the weekend falls in between. In Victoria, the latest date is Tuesday 29 September 2026, one Business Day later, because Friday 25 September 2026 is a public holiday there, the Friday before the AFL Grand Final.

The same-day rule on a Detailed Job Plan

For a participant on a Detailed Job Plan, a non-attendance result has extra weight: it can trigger the Targeted Compliance Framework. The Guidelines still measure it against the same close of business rule, so a "Did not attend (Invalid)" or "Misconduct" result needs recording by close of business on the day, not within the three Business Day allowance. The three accepted reasons for not recording on the day are after hours, remote without system access, and a system outage.

Public holidays counted, by state and territory

Saturdays, Sundays and the public holidays that apply across a whole state or territory count as non-Business Days. Additional and substitute days are included, for example the Monday after a weekend Anzac Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day where that state or territory declares one.

Counts Saturdays, Sundays and the public holidays that apply across a whole state or territory in 2026 and 2027, taken from the Fair Work Ombudsman's lists (checked 17/09/2026), including additional and substitute days such as the Monday after a weekend Anzac Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day where that state or territory declares one. Not counted: part-day holidays (Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve evenings), holidays for part of a state (Brisbane's Royal Queensland Show, Hobart's Royal Regatta and Royal Show, Tasmania's Recreation Day), Tasmania's Easter Tuesday (public service only), Melbourne Cup Day (some regional areas of Victoria hold it on a different date), Victoria's 2027 Friday before the AFL Grand Final (date not yet set), and local show and race days. Western Australia's King's Birthday is counted, although the Karratha and Port Hedland districts hold it on 03/08/2026 instead. Dates outside 2026 and 2027 skip weekends only. Close of business is 5:00pm local time.

Fair Work Ombudsman public holiday lists, checked 17/09/2026

What this tool does not model

  • Local show days and race days, and any date-to-be-confirmed holiday such as Victoria's 2027 Friday before the AFL Grand Final.
  • Regional substitutes, for example some regional areas of Victoria holding Melbourne Cup Day on a different date.
  • Part-day holidays, such as Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve evenings.
  • Site closures your organisation sets itself.
  • Dates from 2028 onwards: this tool covers 2026 and 2027 only, and skips only weekends outside that range.

What the rules do not say

Part B 6.6 does not say whether the appointment day itself counts towards the three Business Days. This tool counts the three days starting the day after the appointment, and also shows a more conservative reading, one Business Day earlier, that counts the appointment day. Part B 6.6 also does not define close of business: this tool defaults to 5:00pm local time (Deed 1.1(h) makes times local), and lets you change it.

How Workstride handles this

The attendance result clock is In the build: Workstride watches the close of business target and the three Business Day limit for every Contact Appointment.

This tool is independent general information, and its holiday data comes from the Fair Work Ombudsman rather than from the product.

Workstride is being built for accreditation by DEWR as a Third Party Employment System. It is not yet accredited.

Questions

Does this tool keep what I enter?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. If you choose Send this to us, a summary goes into the contact form for you to read, change or remove before anything is sent.

What if the appointment is in Broken Hill?

This tool uses each state or territory's own time zone. Broken Hill, New South Wales, observes South Australian time in practice, so a site there may need to read the close of business time against local clocks rather than the state default.

Why does the same appointment give different dates in different states?

Business Days are counted against each state or territory's own public holidays. A holiday in one state, such as Victoria's Friday before the AFL Grand Final, has no effect in a state that does not observe it.
